Man, 102, air­lifted to hos­pi­tal

A 102-YEAR-OLD man was air­lifted to hos­pi­tal af­ter a car crash in Paign­ton.

The man was taken by Devon Air Am­bu­lance to Ply­mouth’s Der­ri­ford Hos­pi­tal af­ter the crash on the seafront near the Red­cliffe Ho­tel on Thurs­day evening.

The main seafront road was closed through­out the evening as po­lice dealt with the in­ci­dent. The air am­bu­lance landed in dark­ness at Queens Park, one of its des­ig­nated night-time land­ing sites.

Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses and any­one who may have dash cam­era footage of the crash which hap­pened at 4.05pm at the point where Ma­rine Drive meets the Esplanade.

Two cars were in­volved. One, a Toy­ota Yaris, con­tained an 83-year-old lo­cal man who was taken to Tor­bay Hos­pi­tal with mi­nor in­juries.

The other ve­hi­cle was a Ford Fi­esta con­tain­ing a woman driver aged 68 and two male pas­sen­gers aged 70 and 102.

The driver and her 68-year-old pas­sen­ger were also taken to Tor­bay Hos­pi­tal with mi­nor in­juries.

The 102-year-old pas­sen­ger was taken by Air Am­bu­lance to Der­ri­ford Hos­pi­tal with se­ri­ous in­juries.

If any­one saw the col­li­sion or has any dash­cam footage they are asked to ring 101 and quote log 543 of Novem­ber 22.
