Early railways conference to go online in June

BOOKINGS are now being invited for delegates to participat­e in the seventh Internatio­nal Virtual Early Railways Conference to be held on June 10-13.

The conference is sponsored by the National Railway Museum (NRM), the Institutio­n of Civil Engineers, the Newcomen Society, Railway & Canal Historical Society and the Stephenson Locomotive Society.

The host will be Firefly Audio Visual Solutions Ltd of Hunslet in Leeds, on behalf of the NRM, using its Airmeet seminar facility.

Amongst the many papers to be presented will be: the discovery of a copy of the judges' report of the Rainhill Trials; the opening of the Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway 1834; Kilsby Tunnel – new light on an engineerin­g wonder of the early railway world; a Shropshire Railway in South Wales: The Gnoll Waggonway of Sir Humphrey Mackworth; and Community and Curzon Street: delivering heritage resources within the HS2 research framework. The keynote speech will be given by NRM assistant director Andrew McLean.
