Early Bradshaw’s, NER timetable and 1960s steam are Paperchase stars
AN early Victorian Bradshaw’s Railways of Great Britain, a North Eastern Railway working timetable, and photographs of 1960s UK steam were the star lots in a Paperchase email, telephone and postal auction of paperwork and collectables that ended on February 2.
The Bradshaw’s guide dated from 1839 and went for £260, a price matched by the NER timetable from 1915 and the images of steam. The timetable ran to 616 pages and, in the language of the day, stated that the contents were for the “information of the Company’s servants only”.
The cover carried the name of the railway’s general superintendent, HA Watson.
The steam images comprised 94 black and white negatives of steam in the 1960s in various regions, and were among a selection of similar lots covering the 1950s and the following decade. Prices exclude buyer’s premium of 12½%.
