Heritage Railway

“Not to be Moved”

-

The railway is surrounded by a plethora of props and I do my best to use them during a photoshoot if I can, as I feel they can often complete a photograph. Locomotive headlamps are common in the stores at Didcot, and I lit the wicks on three and placed them in the scene with the view of reflecting one of the aspects in the water on the ground. Driver Jack Haynes, from the Swanage Railway, was re-enacting that evening and kindly walked away from the camera so I could silhouette him in the rising steam – otherwise known as smoke from the smoke machine resting in the pit being controlled by Neil from Timeline Events. With the culmination of the light, props, grit and grime, the black and white transformation of this photograph makes it completely timeless.
