New-build pioneer engineer celebrates his 70th birthday
THE A1 Steam Locomotive Trust's director of engineering, David Elliott, is also project engineer with the Class G5 Locomotive Company Ltd, whose secretary Tim Taylor presented him with a cake at its Hackworth Industrial Park unit in Shildon to mark his 70th birthday.
David has been involved as the G5's engineer from the outset, and his knowledge, skills and enthusiasm have been pivotal to the success of the scheme to build a new NER O (LNER G5) 0-4-4T.
G5 chairman Mike Wood said:
“It would have been fabulous to surprise David with a large gathering of supporters and volunteers, but unfortunately the lockdown scuppered those plans.
“We couldn't let this special birthday pass, so Tim stepped in to present the cake to David.”
