Boiler lifted from Somerset & Dorset Trust’s Peckett at Mid-Hants Railway

-

PECKETT 0-4-0ST No. 1788 of 1929 Kilmersdon has had its boiler lifted in the first step of an overhaul at its new home of the Mid-Hants Railway.

The boiler was removed from the frames during the ‘Watercress Line's' Vintage Vehicle Weekend on May 23, using the railway's 45-ton Ransomes & Rapier steam crane.

Owned by the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust, Kilmersdon (Works No. 1788 of 1929) had arrived at Alresford on March 15 as part of the trust's move to the Mid-Hants and Avon Valley railways, following the group's notice to leave its base at the West Somerset Railway's Washford station.

Last steamed at the Helston Railway on January 25, 2020, Kilmersdon is expected to return to service next spring and will be used at the MHR's ‘Thomas the Tank Engine' events.
