Early 10-year overhaul for Worth Valley Standard 4MT

With relatively little work currently available for the engine, it was decided to carry out a full overhaul for a fresh 10-year ticket.

The boiler was lifted from the frames at Haworth shed on Saturday, April 24 using the KWVR’s steam crane.

The KWVR currently has six other locomotive­s available for traffic.

They are: Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T No. 85; Ivatt 2MT 2-6-2T No. 41241; Midland Railway 4F 0-6-0

No. 43924; LMS Jubilee No. 45596 Bahamas; BR 2MT 2-6-0 No. 78022; and USATC S160 2-8-0 No. 5820.

Although the Riddles locomotive was only around halfway through its 10-year boiler certificat­e, having returned to service in February 2015, it failed because of problems with the superheate­r elements.
