Green council's pledge to spur on Oswestry branch revival
OSWESTRY'S new Green town council is to give priority to restoring regular rail services to and from the main line at Gobowen.
The proposal was contained in the local Green Party manifesto before its candidates won 12 of 18 seats at May's local elections to take control of the council.
Former Green mayor Coun Duncan Kerr tabled a motion at a recent meeting for all the manifesto pledges to be enshrined in full in a four-year corporate plan. The motion was unanimously supported.
He suggested that the rail services over the branch, which is now part of Cambrian Heritage Railways, might comprise a lightweight tram. A plan reflecting the list of priorities is now being draw up.
