➜ The 1960s diesel era stole the limelight in Great Northern’s ‘Alpha’ sealed bid auction of general railwayana that ended on April 17, when 200 colour slides of Class 52 ‘Westerns’ and Class 55 Deltics sold for £300.

A diagram from Hyde Junction signalbox east of Manchester went for £290, a Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway ex-Great Yarmouth station cart lamp for £250, and a Great Northern Railway October 1911 working timetable for £220. Prices exclude buyer’s premium of 15%.

➜ A private collection of 26 mostly O-gauge GWR model locomotives sold for a total of nearly £7500 (exc buyer’s premium of 20% + VAT) at an antiques auction held by Halls of Shrewsbury on May 5. The top two realisations were £480 for No. 4088 Dartmouth Castle and £460 for ‘Dukedog’ 4-4-0 No. 9026. The auction featured limited room bidding in addition to live online, telephone and commission.

➜ Hornby took the railway models’ spoils in a W&H Peacock of Bedford live online collectors’ auction on May 7, when electric O-gauge LMS Princess Royal No. 6201 Princess Elizabeth released in 1937 sold for £700, exc buyer’s premium of 17½% + VAT.
