Apedale collection’s new additions

-

TWO unrestored locomotives have arrived at the Apedale Valley Light Railway.

A Moseley Railway Trust member has bought Avonside 2ft gauge 0-4-0T No. 1986 of 1926 Renishaw Sugar No. 2, which, as reported in issue 274, was repatriated from South Africa in May 2020 by the Richmond Light Railway at Headcorn in Kent and subsequently offered for sale.

No. 1986 was supplied new for use on the Renishaw Sugar Estates system before being displayed outdoors at the company’s offices follwing its withdrawal.

It arrived at Apedale on June 11. Its restoration at the Potteries line is set to be a long-term project as it will need a new boiler, possibly reusing the existing fittings.

On June 18, Ruston LAT 4wD No. 375360 of 1954, which worked for the Chemical and Insulating Company in Darlington, arrived at Apedale, and is also in need of heavy restoration.
