Nine Lottery-funded carriages and wagons
A £489,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2002 paid for the construction of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s Carriage & Wagon works at Havenstreet, which was officially opened by the Queen in 2004.
It has also funded the restorations of the following vehicles:
■ LCDR 4-wheel Composite No. 6378 (1886).
■ LBSCR bogie brake No. 4168 (1922).
■ LBSCR Third No. 2403 (1903) – converted for wheelchair access.
■ LBSCR 10-ton open goods wagon No. 27834 (1925).
■ LBSCR 10-ton machinery truck No. 60579 (1923).
■ LSWR crane match truck No. 429SM (1890s).
The last three vehicles now being restored thanks to the grant are:
■ LCDR 5-compartment Brake Third No. 4115 (1898).
■ IWR 3 compartment 4-wheel First No. 21 (1864).
■ MR crane No. 429S (1860s).
