Rugby Rotarians win award for GC restoration work

-

RUGBY Rotary Club has won a national award for giving a facelift to a stretch of the former Great Central Railway main line in the town.

As reported in issue 278, panels of double track have been laid under Hillmorton Road bridge as part of a three-quarters-of-a mile railway art heritage trail on the trackbed.

The project, undertaken with Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, has received the Rotary Club of Great Britain and Ireland Environment Award.

The former president of the British Rotary Clubs in the British Isles, Rodney Huggins MBE, who created the awards in 1999, said: “Rugby's entry was chosen because of the scale of its project, its environmental impact, involvement of young people, and potential for growth and development.”
