92 Squadron on the way back after repairs

-

BATTLE of Britain No. 34081

92 Squadron is being prepared for a return to service at the Nene Valley Railway after eight months out of action for firebox repairs.

The air-smoothed Bulleid Pacific, owned by the Battle of Britain Locomotive Society, failed in February with a wasted firebox crownsheet. It was sent to Locomotive Maintenance Services of Loughborough, where it has received patch repairs and new stays.

It returned to the NVR on September 10 and passed its steam test on September 30. Its cab was due to be refitted in mid-October, followed by the boiler lagging and airsmoothed cladding, but a date for a return to service is still to be confirmed.
