RAIB releases details of NYMR collision

-

FURTHER details of a minor collision at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway have been released by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch.

As reported last issue, the incident occurred at approximately 10.32am on September 21, when Class 20 diesel No. 20189 collided with the rear of a stationary rake of Mk.1 coaches at Grosmont station.

The RAIB confirmed that the collision took place at a speed of about 10mph and that five passengers suffered minor injuries.

The stock involved was taken out of traffic for inspection, meaning that Pullman services were cancelled during the line's steam gala the following weekend, as the Pullman coaches were needed to provide a main linecertified set for Whitby services. The RAIB has undertaken a preliminary examination and will publish a safety digest in the coming weeks. NYMR general manager Chris Price said that the railway “is taking the incident very seriously” but was unable to comment further while the investigation is ongoing.
