Can you help move Cadbury diesel to a new home for restoration?

-

AN £8400 appeal has been launched to cover transportation costs of a Cadbury diesel shunter from the chocolate manufacturer's base in Birmingham to its new home at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway.

Registered charity the Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Museum aims to cover the crane hire and transport of Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0DM D1012 of 1955 Cadbury No.14 from the car park of Cadbury World, in Bournville, to its base at Cynheidre, where a restoration and overhaul will take place, bringing D1012 back to its former operational condition, complete with original Cadbury livery and the addition of vacuum and/or air braking systems.

No. 14, which has a Gardner 107hp 6lw engine, was supplied new to the Cadbury's factory at Moreton on the Wirral in September 1956. It worked for Cadbury until it retired in 1977, after which it moved to the Llangollen Railway, where it was operational until 1979. On March 9, 2003, it moved to Cadbury World's entrance where it was displayed until May 9, 2006. It then returned to Cadbury Schweppes Moreton but returned to Cadbury World's car park in February 2007 after being donated by Burton's Foods, which by then operated the Moreton site. No.14 spent a short period at Tyseley Locomotive Works in about 2008 before returning once more to Cadbury World, where it has been on display since. In 2019, it was donated by Cadbury World to the museum.
