Battle of the gauges sees A4 outsell opposition

-

THREE different gauges dominated the model train category in an auction of toys and collectables held by Lacy Scott & Knight of Bury St Edmunds on June 24, headed by a gas-powered live steam A4 No. 60019 Bittern made by Bowande of China in G-scale that sold for £1500.

Another gas-powered model, by Roundhouse of Doncaster in Gauge 1, of an unidentified 0-6-0T in dark red and yellowlined livery, went for £1150, and in third place at £1100 was a 1938 O-gauge Hornby LMS Princess Royal class Pacific No. 6201 Princess Elizabeth.

A second gas-powered Roundhouse model, of an 0-4-0T carrying the No. 1 and named Comet, went under the hammer for £920, and not far behind at £850 the modern era had a say in proceedings with a 5in gauge battery-operated Class 31 (D)5618. Prices exclude buyer’s premium of 22½% (+ VAT).
