Class 40 cab arrives at Cynheidre
THE trailer-mounted cab of Class 40 No. 40088 has become the latest exhibit at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway’s Cynheidre base.
Until recently, the cab was used for promotional purposes by the Class 40 Preservation Society.
It will remain mounted on its trailer and it is intended that it will serve a similar purpose for the railway in visiting several promotional events in the area.
The South Wales Cab Yard at the railway is developing an interactive attraction comprising a variety of locomotive and multiple unit cabs alongside the operational line. The cabs are available for inspection during regular open days and events. You can even visit the cab of several, including No. 40088.
Funds from the sale of the cab, which was based at Bury until May, will go towards the ongoing restoration of the Class 40 Preservation Society’s locomotives.
Meanwhile, the railway been awarded a £1907.67 grant from The Coalfields Regeneration Trust to provide solar lighting throughout the site. Railway spokesman David Mee said: “This funding from the
Coalfields Regeneration Trust is a great help in developing a safe environment for our visitors and volunteers and is one more step towards making the LMMR a firstclass destination and attraction for the local community.”
