Evening Star and Royal Scot head models’ charts

A GAUGE 1 electrical radio-controlled Class 9F 2-10-0 No. 92220 Evening Star achieved the highest realisatio­n of £850 in the model trains category of a Lacy Scott & Knight toys and collectors’models auction at Bury St Edmunds on August 26. The sale also included railwayana, in which the leader was a GWR‘Speed to the West’poster that went under the hammer for £780.

This iconic poster, which features No. 6028 King George VI, was issued in 1939 and was the work of Charles Mayo (1907-1982), the son of a railway clerk who joined the GWR PR department as a graphic designer in 1931 and also produced work for booklets and other publicity material. Prices exclude buyer’s premium of 22½% (+ VAT). Also on August 26, a Wrenn OO gauge No. 46100 Royal Scot topped the charts in a Vectis model train sale with a realisatio­n of £1200 (exc buyer’s premium of 25% inc VAT).
