Half barriers will be installed for Strathspey level crossing

-

A STRATHSPEY Railway level crossing that has seen accidents and near misses over the years is to be upgraded imminently at a cost of £1.1 million.

Dalfaber level crossing in Aviemore, an ungated crossing with warning signs and lights but no barriers, has been described as the last of its type in Scotland.

Half barriers are to be installed as a condition of housing developer Scotia Homes’ planning approval to build 75 new homes off Dalfaber Drive nearby. The upgrade was reported as being scheduled to take place between October 31 and December 11, with the barriers being fully operational by February.

Highland Council has been responsible for the operation and management of the crossing since 1978.
