Former Sellafield shunter donated to Chasewater

-

WITH Cumbria’s Sellafield powerplant now operating the next generation of hybrid shunting locomotives built by Clayton Equipment, operators Sellafield Ltd have donated Hunslet 0-6-0DH No. 9000 of 1983 to the Chasewater Railway.

No. 9000 (Sellafield No. 6) was used for shunting flask wagons around the nuclear waste management yard until replaced by modern electric locomotives in a bid to reduce the site’s emissions. It arrived at Chasewater during the late evening of October 11, still operational and subsequently operated at the railway’s last Coal Train Day on October 16.
