The 1935 Underground train from Holborn is now arriving at Aldwych...
A SELECTION of recent arrivals for the Transport Auctions of London sale on Saturday, October 29 includes an Underground ‘HolbornAldwych only’ cab destination plate from the line’s 1935 stock and a set of Underground original car numberplates from 1956 prototype Tube stock that was renumbered three years later.
From above ground and into Wales come a Merthyr/Pontypridd carriageboard obtained by the vendor after the last train ran using that style of board, and a circa 1906 GWR enamel poster map promoting the new Fishguard route to Ireland operated by ‘magnificent turbine steamers’ that ran at 22½ knots. Nine years before this new route across St George’s Channel was introduced, the first issue of The Railway Magazine went on sale, and the auction features a complete run of bound volumes from the launch of the publication, which is now a sister title to Heritage Railway, in 1897 to 1971. The auction is live online and starts at 10am.
