Great taste of South America
Hitchin’s Capsicana has bowled over the judges at the Great Taste Awards
Capsicana’s awards cabinet is filling up. Following on from success at last year’s Great Taste Awards, the authentic Latin American food brand has scooped a fantastic three stars, plus a Golden Fork award, for its Brazilian Chilli and Coconut Cook Sauce at the 2018 event.
Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, more than 400 judges blind taste over 12,500 products and award the best between one and three stars. This year the top three-star grade was given to only 197 products, while a Golden Fork was given to just 16.
‘We found ourselves licking the plate and would absolutely love to try this again,’ the judges said. ‘The heat is well judged and coconut fragrant. The spices are fresh and there is an element of sourness; overall a new, exciting and well-judged product.’
A lover of chillis, Ben Jackson founded Hitchin-based Capsicana in 2009. He said of the award: ‘It’s great to see that people enjoy our sauces so much and appreciate all the passion that goes into making them.’
His products, available in Waitrose and Whole Foods, are packed full of authentic ingredients, so you can make original and great tasting recipes at home. And he has recently expanded the range, adding a Quick and Easy Guacamole Mix and two seasoning mixes; making them the perfect store cupboard essential.
Vibrant, fun and tasty, bring these little packets of Latin America to your kitchen and have yourself a food fiesta. Olé!
