999 what’s your emergency?
Residents called firefighters after getting stuck in toy cars and toilet seats, a report on 999 calls in the county has revealed. Herts firefighters were also called out 34 times to remove objects such as handcuffs and rings.
Data released by the Home Office showed non-fire incidents between April 2017 and March attended by Herts Fire and Rescue Service’s 29 fire stations made up a third of the total 10,500 call-outs.
As well as removing objects, crews were called 72 times to rescue cats from trees, while flooding was the cause of 331 calls and there were eight emergencies to rescue people from water. Total call-outs were up six per cent on the previous year.
