999 what’s your emer­gency?

Res­i­dents called fire­fight­ers af­ter get­ting stuck in toy cars and toi­let seats, a re­port on 999 calls in the county has re­vealed. Herts fire­fight­ers were also called out 34 times to re­move ob­jects such as hand­cuffs and rings.

Data re­leased by the Home Of­fice showed non-fire in­ci­dents be­tween April 2017 and March at­tended by Herts Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice’s 29 fire sta­tions made up a third of the to­tal 10,500 call-outs.

As well as re­mov­ing ob­jects, crews were called 72 times to res­cue cats from trees, while flood­ing was the cause of 331 calls and there were eight emer­gen­cies to res­cue peo­ple from wa­ter. To­tal call-outs were up six per cent on the pre­vi­ous year.
