DISCOUNT superstore GHM! opened doors in The Crescent on Tuesday.

GHM! is a new retail concept and the name stands for guess how much. The firm plans to open between eight and 10 stores across the country over the summer months with Hinckley’ being the first.

It joins other stores such as TK Maxx, Poundland and Sainsbury’s which have already opened in the £60 million development.

The store has employed 25 members staff with most of them from the local area.

Jennifer Low, store manager, said: “We’re hoping when people walk in they’ll be surprised with what we’ve done as we’ve totally transformed the place.

“The staff are fantastic, and we want people to shop and to get to know us better. “We’re very much about service.” More than 100 people applied for jobs at the store.

GHM’s staff have selected Burbage’s KeepTheBeat as the store’s charity and they were on hand to help open the store on Tuesday.

The idea of GHM! is to give shoppers the opportunity to get everything they need under one roof including household essentials branded food as well as clothing.

It has been set up by clothing company Pepkor UK and will stock their own branded clothing in store.

GHM! is being set up by Pepkor UK which was established by former Asda CEO Andy Bond. Last year, the company opened a string of shops in a very short space of time under the Pep&Co brand. Some 50 shops were opened in just 50 days.

The successful first year of the store is now the subject of an ITV1 documentary which is on screens at the moment. its
