Volunteers help transform new homes
STAFF from a globally renowned business services firm gave up their time to transform three houses in Hinckley into homes for people on the streets.
A team of 15 workers from the PriceWaterhouseCooper (PwC) East Midlands office busied themselves with cleaning, painting indoors and out and giving the gardens a solid spruce up.
The three properties have been taken on by Action Homeless, a Leicestershire based charity, which has recently expanded its work into Hinckley.
The charity currently houses more than 140 men, women, and children each night in Leicester, with some 800 people coming through their services each year.
The new Hinckley properties will allow the charity to provide nine additional units of accommodation across three shared houses for people affected by homelessness in the county.
Eilidh Stringer, funding manager at Action Homeless, said “We are very grateful to the team from PwC who gave up their time to help us to create a homely environment for the tenants who are due to move in. Preparing the three houses was a big job and wouldn’t be possible without the support of enthusiastic volunteers.”
The event is one of many One Firm One Day projects PwC staff undertook across the UK during one day this month. The initiative was established by PwC to encourage staff to get involved in local community groups through volunteering.
