The big event is on Sunday June 19

-

PREPARATIONS for this year’s Burbage Carnival are well underway.

More than 6,000 people are expected to attend the event, which takes place on Sunday June 19.

There will be a range of activities for all the family on Britannia Field, and, of course, the carnival procession, which this year has a superhero theme.

The route, which is slightly altered this year due to roadworks, will now go along Twycross Road and on to Grove Road, instead of Forresters Road.

The amended route now starts at Windsor Street at noon, before heading down Coventry Road and Pyeharps Road. It will then turn right onto Sketchley Road before heading down Boyslade Road, then onto Twycross Road, Grove Road, Hinckley Road and finishing back on Windsor Street.

The arena will opened by the chairs of the carni- val committee and parish council, shortly after the parade finishes at 1.30pm.

The arena will play host to an eclectic range of entertainment to suit all tastes with live music including Hinckley singer-songwriter Marky T, TKT Cheerleaders, S2udio dancers, baby ballet as well clowns and face painting.

There will also be food available from Dinky Donuts, ice cream and sweet stalls.

New to this year’s festival is Aunty Agatha’s The Little Big Sensory shop, which offers a range of homemade gifts, toys, clothes and even musical instruments.

Sonja Howitt, co-chair of the carnival, said: “It’s shaping up to be a really great family day out.”

This year’s prince and princess have also been crowned, with brother and sister Hugh and Rosa Macgregor-Devlin, aged eight and 12, being selected for the honour. The two will lead the carnival procession as well as take part in other engagements throughout the year.

The night will also end with the traditional firework display.

Stalls and floats are still available, and to book your place or for more information visit www. burbagecarnival.com

Anyone wishing to pitch a charity stall can do so free of charge. Entry to the arena is £1 for adults and free for under-16s.
