New exhibition is a glass act

-

A UNIQUE chance to see Whitefriars Glass will be available at Atkins Gallery in June.

The collection will showcase the work of some of Whitefriars most famous and celebrated craftsmen and artists including Hogan, Powell and Baxter, known for their pre and post war designs.

It will also be the first time the collection of Catherine Smith, who worked at Whitefriars from the late 1940s and 1952, will be on display to the public.

As part of the showcase, last night Antiques Roadshow’s Andy McConnell was due to make a guest appearance to talk about Whitefriars Glass as well as his work on the show. He was set to be joined by Chris Woolman of Haybarn Glass, Castle Street.

In addition, Lockdales Auctioneers will be attending the exhibition on Thursday offering free expert evaluation on any antiques guests may have.

Councillor Amanda Wright, executive member for culture, sport and leisure at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, said “This is a wonderful opportunity for glass enthusiasts to come and see a spectacular collection of Whitefriars glass. This will be a super event for Antiques Roadshow fans as well and the public will be able to hear guest speaker Andy McConnell. The public are also encouraged to bring along their own Whitefriars or other objects d’art for valuation and selling at auction should they wish to do so. This will be a fantastic event for the local area.”

Tickets for Andy McConnell’s talk can be booked at www.whitefriarsrevisited.com and Lockdales evaluations and auctions will take place on Thursday between 11.30am and 3.30pm.
