Making a difference for Chris

-

A RUNNER from Hinckley is taking to the streets for the Rothley 10k in memory of her late friend.

Emma Fryer will wear Chris Audrey’s name on her running vest for the occasion. Chris, from Burbage, went missing in 2012, before his body was found near Hinckley Golf Club, on the edge of Burbage Common.

Emma is now raising money for mental health charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) which aims to prevent male suicide.

She said: “He had always been there throughout my childhood, I just wish he had the opportunity to speak to someone. Seeing the devastation it leaves behind is awful.

“Hopefully I can make difference, and raise the charity’s profile. It will keep his memory there too.”

As well as the race there will be a raffle to win an £100 voucher from Hinckley Golf Club, where Chris used to work as a greenkeeper. T-shirt printers Hoodz n Stuff, in Sparkenhoe Business Centre, printed her vest free of charge.

The race will also be a personal goal for Emma, who suffered from agoraphobia just two years ago.

She said: “It’s my first ever race, although I have done two training ones. One went well, one not so well.

“I suffer from anxiety, and I started running in March and it helps, having someone to run for also helps keep your mind focused.”

The race takes place on Tuesday June 14, 12 days before the fourth anniversary of Chris’ death.
