Top pubs honoured for perfect pints

TOP PUBS across the borough have been recognised for serving up superb real ales and ciders.

Hinckley and Bosworth CAMRA has made its 2016 awards with the Lime Kilns on the A5 taking the overall top gong, Hinckley’s Pestle and Mortar achieving the top cider pub accolade and Burbage’s Constitutional Club named as best club.

CAMRA member Richard Lewin said: “To be judged as an exceptional pub or club the beers and ciders sold must be of very good quality. Preferably some local products should be offered. Service should be welcoming, friendly and polite. The style, decor and furnishings must be pleasant and clean. Importantly there should be a community focus that supports local groups and teams.

“Basics include clearly displayed prices and opening hours and the serving of proper measures.”

The Lime Kilns, one of only seven in the area to feature in the Good Beer Guide, was praised for its consistently first class pints and high quality home cooked food.

Hinckley’s first micropub The Pestle and Mortar has enjoyed incredible success since opening in August last year and was highlighted for offering a choice of a dozen real ciders with up to six real ales.

Richard said CAMRA was proud to honour the outlet, on Upper Castle Street, with the very first cider pub of the year.

Burbage and District Constitutional Club regained the Club of the Year Award after a gap of one year.

Richard said: “This award is a personal tribute to those who have contributed so much time and effort to make this club a continuing success.

“This includes David Banks, club chairman, the committee, the staff and, also most importantly, all the members who regularly visit and enjoy the facilities.”

Chairman David Finn presented award certificates to all the winners.
