Solitary artwork wins vote

-

ARTIST Derek Everitt was not alone when he found his painting entitled Solitary judged the visitors’ favourite at Desford and Peckleton Art Club’s annual spring exhibition.

Mr Everitt was presented with a trophy to mark his public popularity after his watercolour won the most votes cast by visitors during the two-day display.

Organisers say the 23rd annual spring show was a “big success” with a “good turnout” of visitors and around one-fifth of all artworks sold.

Formal judging of all submitted pieces was carried out on the evening before the show opened to the public.

Malcolm Clayson won best landscape or seascape, Mick Grewcock won best portrait, David Freer won best still life and Graham Luker won best absract or experimental piece.

Malcolm Clayson’s watercolour of Wells Harbour was judged overall winner, and earned him a trophy too.

Classes were sponsored by Rosemary and Co brushes, ProArt brushes, The Artist Magazine and the SAA Society for All Artists and were judged by Andy Shaw, David Wright, Peter Gadsby and Diane Sinclair.

Club spokesman David Freer said: “Desford and Peckleton Art Club would like to thank the sponsers for their generosity, the judges for their time and expertise and all who made this annual event a great success.”
