THE REGION’S airport got a ministerial visit to mark its role in promoting great British exports.

East Midlands Airport and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) have joined forces in the first initiative of its kind in the country to help promote the Government’s Exporting is GREAT campaign.

New displays have been put up across the site showcasing some of the region’s best known names including Pretty Polly tights, Melton Mowbray Pork Pies and Chatsworth House.

The new visuals promote the best of what the UK and the region have to offer ensuring the 4.6 million passengers who travel through the airport have an inspiring impression and recognise the East Midlands as a gateway for global business.

Transport Secretary Patrick Mcloughlin checked out the feature, saying: “The Midlands is a great place to do business and I am delighted to unveil the latest stage of the Exporting is GREAT campaign.

“The partnership between UKTI and East Midlands Airport will inspire and support even more businesses to sell their goods and services overseas, helping us to achieve £1 trillion of exports by 2020.”

Andy Cliffe, airport managing director, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen as the first UK airport to display these iconic images that depict what is great about our region.

“Being at the heart of the region and a catalyst for growth, we do all that we can to help the region prosper and celebrate the fantastic businesses and education institutions within the East Midlands.”
