Cycle squad enjoys successful weekend’s riding

TEAM Jewson MI RacingPoly­pipe enjoyed massive medal haul this weekend across all age groups and discipline­s.

Richard Shimmell started off a successful weekend by winning the 56 mile race for riders 45 years and over, with his team mate Ian Cooper finishing in third place.

Hinckley’s Mike Twelves carried on with his impressive early season form, winning the Over-50s event and now sits second in the overall series, which he has won for the past three seasons.

In the Over-55s Rob O’connor was beaten into second place by his main rival, and is also second in his series.

Martin Hackley has gone one better in the Over-65s series, climbing to the top of the series after winning his race. Mick Ives also won the Over-75s race.

The Raceways Avenger Triathlon took place at Ragley Hall where Mark Styles finished third at the Olympic distance event.

In the mountain bike category, Hinckley’s Phil Stokes won the Over-60s Friday Night Summer season event at Delapre, Northampto­nshire, with teams mate Peter Busby finishing second in the Over-50s.

Phil competed in the Midland Cross Country Moun- tain Bike Championsh­ip the next day, winning the Over60s championsh­ip.

His team mate Kirby Bennett also won the Over-55s Midland Championsh­ip, with Lindsay Nell finishing third in the veteran ladies championsh­ips, despite having a major mechanical fault when leading the race.

In the Under-14s mountain bike championsh­ips for girls, academy rider Lotta Mansfield finish second.

Elsewhere in the academy, Josh Giddings won the Under-14s East Midlands Youth Circuit Championsh­ips, with team mate Ed Woodward finishing second.

Calum Twelves had to settle for second in the Under12s championsh­ips, with Finn Mansfield finishing fifth in the Under-16s event.
