Illness hampers racer

-

RACER Paul Streather battled an illness during his latest race but managed to secure important points finishes for Finesse Motorsport.

The Hinckley racer suffered a sickness bug during his meeting at Oulton Park in Cheshire last weekend.

But he refused to give in and scooped a best finish of ninth in race two.

Beginning Saturday’s race from 15th on the grid, Streather lost a couple of positions initially but delivered a determined performance despite his illness.

By lap five, he was back into the top 15 and on lap eight he climbed into 13th position where he stayed to the flag on lap 12.

For round eight on Sunday afternoon, in very warm conditions, Streather began to feel better and this was reflected in his performance.

The Renault UK Clio Cup racer ended the race in ninth.

He said: “I’m disappointed I felt so ill all weekend. On Friday I was really bad, the pace was there in the car but as the day went on my body gave up and I went slower and slower.

“Saturday was the same, I just wanted to throw up every time I was in the car. I wasn’t anywhere near 100% for race two, but it was the best I’d felt all weekend and we’ve come away with some points – damage limitation really.”

His next race is at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire on June 18 and 19.
