Open debate over EU to be held on Thursday
WITH the EU referendum fast approaching two local campaigners from opposite sides of the debate have called an open meeting in Hinckley to help people decide.
Chris Kealey, from Hinckley and Bosworth Labour Party, will argue for the UK to remain in the EU, while UKIP County Councillor David Sprason will explain the case for a leave vote.
As campaigns from both sides have been criticised for being misleading and confusing, both candidates stressed that the meeting is open to all, particularly to those undecided or feeling unsure about the information from the national campaigns.
The meeting will include short presentations by both speakers before opening up to the audience for questions.
Chris, who lives in Hinckley, said: “Many people are still making up their minds. So much is at stake in this vote, the biggest for a generation. It is vital that the conversation is opened as widely as possible. This is an invitation to everybody, whether you’ve tracked the debates closely or are coming to it new.
“I would encourage whole families to come. It is a decision for future generations too.”
The open meeting takes place on Thursday June 16 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the Mary Forryan Centre, St Peter’s Church, Leicester Road.
Chris is also holding an informal question and answer session on the EU referendum called “Are EU still unsure?” on Tuesday June 21 at 7.30pm at Karns Café Bar, New Buildings, Hinckley.
