New appeal over murder of woman
Six months since her death
DETECTIVES investigating the murder of Mumtaz Member are making a fresh appeal for information six months after she was killed.
On December 12 last year, officers were called to a property in Holmfield Avenue, Leicester, at 9.30am by the ambulance service.
Mumtaz’s body was found in the property and a post mortem examination revealed she died from head injuries.
Detective chief inspector Mick Graham from East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team, said: “This weekend it will be six months since Mumtaz was murdered.
“Our investigation has been ongoing since December last year and has included house to house enquiries and an extensive trawl of CCTV from the area.
“Someone out there knows who was responsible for Mumtaz’s murder and we need you to come forward, you could help us solve this crime.
“Enquiries have also established that there were motorists and pedestrians in Holmfield Avenue during the early hours of Saturday December 12, specifically between midnight and 8.50am.
“I know we are asking people to remember what they were doing six months ago but if this is a road that you regularly use on specific days then I hope that you will be able to assist us. It’s not too late to come forward.
“We have spoken to a number of people since December 2015 but we are sure there are others who may have been in the area during that night. If you were, then please get in touch with us.
“We understand that it’s not always easy coming forward, especially if the information you may have is sensitive or you’re not sure if you have anything that may help. Please be assured that we have specialist officers who can assist.
“If you feel that you can’t contact the police directly, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously. Any calls received will be treated in confidence.”
Two men and a woman were arrested at the time and subsequently charged with murder. However, the case against them was discontinued earlier this year.
