-

AN ANALYSIS by The Hinckley Times has revealed where the area’s best - and worst - drivers live.

According to the data, taken from the Department for Transport, 2.8 million drivers have at least one penalty point on their licence out of 46.3 million licence holders. This is equivalent to 6.1% of drivers.

The worst postcode in the region was CV13, where 6.3% of licence holders have penalty points.

CV13 includes people who live in Barlestone, Barton in the Beans, Cadeby, Carlton, Cogerstone, Dadlington, Fenny Drayton, Higham on the Hill, Market Bosworth, Nailstone, Osbaston, Shackerstone, Shenton, Stoke Golding, Sutton Cheney, Upton and Wellsborough.

Those who live in LE9, which includes Barwell, Broughton Astley, Cosby, Desford, Earl Shilton, Kirby Mallory, Newbold Verdon, Sapcote and Stoney Stanton, faired slightly better with 5.9% of drivers having at least one penalty point.

Just 5.7% of drivers who live in Hinckley and Bur- bage, with a LE10 postcode, have the any penalty points, which is the best return in the area.

As many as 154 drivers in Leicestershire currently have 12 or more points on their licence with one driver in the LE9 postcode district holding a staggering 16 points, making them one of the worst drivers in the area.

If anybody gets 12 points on their licence within a three-year period they receive a six-month ban from driving. This can increase to up to two years if it is not their first ban. The statistics are generally lower than the average, however.

The PH39 postcode, which covers the Arisaig area in the Scottish Highlands, is home to Britain’s worst drivers. A whopping 15% of drivers in the area have points on their licence.

A total of 8,594 motorists have 12 or more points on their licence with Britain’s worst two drivers holding an almost unbelievable 51 points each.

One of them is from the L19 postcode district in Liverpool while the other lives in the SS13 postcode district, covering Basildon in Essex. national
