Fashion students soak up careers advice from graduate
A HINCKLEY college graduate returned to campus to talk about career prospects and how she got on the business ladder.
Students on the first year of the HND in fashion and textiles were given an insight into their potential futures from alumni, Julia Sargisson.
While studying in Hinckley Julia specialised in print, and was keen to impress upon the students the possibilities which may be open to them, should they choose to focus on that area.
Julia graduated in 2014 and moved on to do a BA (Hons) surface patterns/ textile surfaces degree at Staffordshire University.
She now has her own company which reflects her passion for textiles and embroidery.
Jo Hall, lecturer in fashion and textiles, said: “There’s no doubt that Julia’s visit inspired our present crop of HND students, not only because she was the last person at our Hinckley campus to specialise in print but also because of her drive and entrepreneurial spirit.
“She came equipped with some great ideas and also encouraged best practise, including the importance of developing work from primary research and sketchbook designs through to mood boards, sampling and final design ideas.
“I know that our learners took a lot from the day and it’s fantastic to have a student return to us and showcase their passion for their subject area. It makes us proud that we have played a part in that success.”
