Dog chipping for £10 at the council offices

-

DOG owners are reminded to get their pet chipped to avoid incurring a £500 fine.

To help owners comply with the new legislation, which came into effect on April 6, Hinckley and BOsworth Borough Council’s Dog Warden service will be hosting a microchipping service at Hinckley Hub on Thursday June 30 between 4.30pm, and 6.30pm.

The sessions cost £10 and no appointment is necessary, although it is requested that owners use the Rugby Road entrance.

Microchips are the size of a grain of rice, cause no more discomfort than a standard vaccination and will be implanted under the skin using a special gun.

Each microchip has a unique identification number which is registered to the dog and the owner’s details are placed on a national database. This number can then be read when a scanner is passed over the chip to allow the dog to be reunited with their owner.

According to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, each year more than 100,000 dogs are abandoned or lost and over half of these dogs could not be identified and returned to their owners.

Owners should not be concerned about taking their dogs to be microchipped despite the new laws already being in place as no enforcement action will be taken against them for doing the right thing.

If anyone would like to discuss the microchipping service or the Dog Warden Service they can do by contacting Hinckley 255946.
