THE START of Shackersto­ne Angling Club’s season kicked off with the ever popular Teams of Four championsh­ip.

Top team on the day was The Three Counties foursome of Ian Plant, Maurice Smith, Ken Thorpe and Clive Harrison. The side had two section winners as they finished with just nine points.

Runners-up were the Ibstock team which totalled 14 points. Dry Nets finished third with 15 points.

The Monthills section produced the top three individual catches, with Ian Plant and Andy Morton having a battle for top spot. Drawn next to each other it was Ian Plant who won on the day weighing 6lb 9oz with Andy Morton finishing a very close second with a 6lb 8oz catch. Colin Lane came third with 5lb 6oz. Section winners were; A section; Alan Dixon 3lb 14oz. B section Kev Milne 2lb 10oz. C section Maurice Smith 1lb 14oz. D section; Ian Plant.

Lychgate Fisheries Sunday open contest produced a comfortabl­e win for Steve Brindley, who also qualified for the Lychomania final. Drawn on peg 68, Steve used bomb and pellet tactics to land 92lb 6oz of carp. Runner-up Paul Morris pole fished paste to catch 66lb 10oz of carp. Steve Smith fished a pellet feeder to weigh 65lb 8oz for third place with Joe Mckenna snr taking fourth place with a 48lb 10oz catch.

Higham Lane’s latest Summer League match was won by Mick Linnett, who switched between pole and feeder tactics to catch 58lb 2oz. Rich Wells finished second with 55lb 5oz. Andy Findley, forgot his rods and had to borrow a rod and reel, but he still managed third place with a 46lb 11oz catch.

Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday open was won for the second successive week by Pete White. Pete caught mainly on the pole to land 43lb of carp and bream. Last week’s runner-up Tom Watt finished second again, with 32lb 7oz. Terry Sanderson came third with 27lb 1oz.

Higham Lane’s Wednesday evening contest was won by Kev Milne who fished a method feeder to catch 50lb 11oz. John Varley came second with 43lb 7oz with Paul Cook finishing third with 38lb.

Maynes Lakes’ Wednesday open match was won by Jonathan Harvey with a 63lb 12oz catch of carp. Results: Pool 2; First; Jonathan Harvey. Second; Geoff Dowell, 32lb 4oz. Pool 3: First Dave Bolton, 20lb 4oz. Second: Alby Beehl, 19lb 2oz.

Danny Ross scored yet another win in Sunday’s Brookfield open match at Stoke Golding. Danny landing 12 small carp on pole fished meat to weigh 35lb 10oz. Ray Linards came second with 16lb 10oz with Fred Walker taking third place with 10lb 4oz.

Measham’s Merit Cup con- test was fished along the Globe length of the canal at Snarestone. Graham White took the honours with a 3lb 2oz catch of small bream. Ian Plant was second with 1lb 11oz while Geoff Taylor came third with 1lb 9oz.

There was a close finish to the Lychgate Fisheries Wednesday open match with less than 2lb seperating the top three. Leading the way was Suzi Smith who fished pellet feeder to land 36lb 9oz of carp. Paul Bates came second with 35lb 14oz on pole fished maggot. Dick Featherlan­d came third with 34lb 13oz.

Higham Lane’s Thursday open was won by Dave Massey who fished bomb and pellet to catch 49lb 8oz of carp. Andy Stewart weighed 43lb to take second place with Steady Eddie Sharrad finishing third with 28lb.

Measham have an open canal series match every Wednesday evening. Draw 5.30pm at the Globe Inn Snarestone.

Lychgate Fisheries have open matches/Lychomania qualifiers every Saturday and Sunday.

Shackersto­ne have an open match this Sunday, draw 8am at the Rising Sun.

Brookfield have an open match every Sunday and Wednesday draw 9am.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Shackersto­ne have members only contests every Tuesday, draw 5.45pm on Station Bridge.

Maynes Lakes have open matches every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open match/Lychomania qualifier every Wednesday, draw 9am.
