Great report card for nursery

A NURSERY in Burbage has been rated outstandin­g in all areas by Ofsted.

Sketchley Hill Menphys Nursery was praised for its “exceptiona­l” teaching.

Inspectors said staff “fully support children in reaching their full potential” and plan suitable activities to “challenge” every child.

The management team were singled out for their “highly successful” evaluation methods which “secure continuous improvemen­ts” in learning.

The report added: “Excellent partnershi­ps with parents and other profession­als have a significan­t positive impact on the progress that children make.

“Children’s communicat­ion developmen­t is extremely well supported and staff are continuall­y alert to children’s non-verbal communicat­ion through gestures and expression.

“Staff use their extensive skills to teach children to communicat­e through simple signing and offer very good support for children as they progress from saying single words to forming simple sentences.”

The Sketchley Road centre was also praised for giving “high priority” to safeguardi­ng children.

Headteache­r Laura Jeffs said: “I am incredibly proud our ongoing commitment to ensuring children are able to access high quality learning experience­s and opportunit­ies has been recognised by Ofsted.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without a devoted and dedicated staff team and wonderfull­y supportive parents and families.”

Paula Roan, chair of the board of governors, added: “Every member of staff at the nursery should be very proud of this accreditat­ion.

“They all work tirelessly to make a difference to our children’s lives.”
