BOSWORTH Show 2016 was one of the best-attended in recent years.

Thousands of visitors flocked to the showground at the edge of Market Bosworth on Sunday for a day of agricultural, horticultural, equestrian and floral fun.

The huge turnout, with takings on the gate up more than £2,000 on last year, will mean more money raised for Guide Dogs, which is the chosen charity of organisers the Market Bosworth Agricultural, Horticultural and Equestrian Society for 2016.

Organisers say the turnout was boosted by the mild, dry weather and the help of reenactors from The American Civil War Society who drummed up support by marching into Market Bosworth on the eve of the show, playing pipes and drums in the market place and at The Red Lion pub.

A spokesman for the 127th Bosworth Show said: “Their enthusiasm and willingness to help was much appreciated.

n show day their skirmish re-eneactment ensured that none slept in the afternoon sun.

Other popular displays included a mini zoo, with snakes, insects and meerkats offering creepy or cuddly hands-on experiences for adults and children alike.

Heavy horse and side-saddle classes drew entries in double figures.

A floral marquee saw perfectly poised arrangements alongside cheery vegetable animals.

Crafts and trade stands filled the grounds where there were demonstrations as varied as pony club displays and Second”World War re-enactments.

On the Friday before show day, a beagle racing evening raised more than £1,000 for Nuneaton’s Mary Ann Evans Hospice.
