Mika to brave the charity chop

-

A BARWELL schoolgirl is braving the chop in support of the Little Princess Trust.

Mika Mortimer, six, has decided to cut eight inches off her hair and donate it to make wigs for boys and girls undergoing chemotherapy.

The Newlands Primary School pupil was inspired to brave the scissors after watching a video of a girl with cancer receive a wig.

Charlotte, Mika’s mum, said: “As soon as she watched the video she came up to me straight away saying that she was going to do it.

“I was a little bit shocked at first because she loves her hair, so I thought I’d give her a few weeks to make sure but she was positive.

“She’s had little wobbles, but now I’ve set up the JustGiving page and people have donated so generously so I’ve reassured her that everything will be fine and it will grow back.

“She’s a really caring person and feels for other people. If she sees people hurt or upset she offers help. I think it was the reaction from the little girl in the video which convinced her.”

Mika will have her waist length hair cut into a bob at her house by a family friend on September 30.

She hopes to raise £500 for the charity.

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs for children who have lost their own through cancer treatment.
