A NEWLY refurbished pub in Hinckley town centre has submitted plans to transform the site into a restaurant.

The Dog and Gun, at the junction of Mansion Street and The Borough, reopened its doors as a watering hole in October 2016 following a makeover

Hinckley couple Shane and Kelly West bought the iconic building at an auction in February after it languished on the property market for months.

The building, which is regarded as of significant architectural interest, was given a new lease of life, but retains its original sash windows, and name.

The Wests now hope to transform the ground floor into an open-plan restaurant and bar, with an extension to the rear and side to create more space for diners.

Plans submitted to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council also include turning the second floor living space into a kitchen.

A report supporting the application said: “The proposal is to open out the walls on the ground floor with a steel structure being introduced to create an open plan bar area with an open plan seating area for the restaurant on the first floor and a kitchen layout to be designed on the sec- arch doorway ond floor.

“The restaurant proposal for the Dog and Gun will increase the use of the premises beyond the negative night life culture associated with purely a drinking establishment.

“The development is an enhancement to what is existing without overbearing the street scene as the ground floor is only a slight adjustment to the existing plan..

“We propose to enhance the functionality of the building in line with the area action plan and do not offer a negative impact upon the street scene or the neighbouring plots.”

The bid has not yet come before the borough council’s planning committee.
