Good causes receive cheques

-

KIND-HEARTED pupils at Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre raised £852 during a year of charity fundraising activities.

The cash raised will be shared between chosen charities the Matt Hampson Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Society.

The Matt Hampson Foundation was set up by the former England Under-21 rugby player who was left paralysed after a training accident in 2005 and which works to inspire and support other young people who have suffered similar debilitating injuries.

It was the chosen charity of pupils at the former Mount Grace High School which merged with the former John Cleveland College to create the new Hinckley Academy and JC6 , which was visited by Matt Hampson who gave a memorable talk to students.

The Alzheimer’s society supports families and carers of people with dementia as well as helping carry out research into the disease.

Pupils were moved to raise money for the cause by a teacher who has been backing the charity since her mother died in 2009.

Money-making events included cake sales and well-wishing trees.

More charity events are planned for 2017 which will again raise money for the Matt Hampson Foundation and also for Burbage based charity KeepTheBeat, supporting families of youngsters born with congenital heart defects.
