Sunday League football kicks off the new year

-

A BOTTOM table clash in the Bond Street Trophies Premier Division topped the bill of the Simply Gym Hinckley and District Sunday League this week.

Both Enderby Social and Duke of Rutland looked to shut up shop so it was never going to be a high-scoring affair, but it proved to be an entertaining and highly contested game.

The deadlock was eventually broken when Joe Gross found the far post with a header to give Social the points at Rutland, moving them from the foot of the table.

Replacing Social are Market Bosworth 2000 who travelled to FC Topps and went 1-0 down to an own goal on the half hour.

Tom Alesbrook then equalised for Bosworth before Mitch Gaskin restored the lead for Topps before the break.

A penalty from Adam McNally made the final score 3-1 to Topps.

Tin Hat were hoping to be the first team to take points off lead- ers Sporting Dynamo and goals from Marley Henry and Josh Johnson before the break gave them a solid chance.

However Sporting came out all guns blazing in the second half and four goals from Rich Lewis and one from Kyle Croxall ensured their unbeaten run continues.

In the Hardy and Draper Carpets Division One, pride of place has to go to Three Horseshoes who progressed to the semi-final of the County Intermediate Cup with a 5-1 win over Pukka Pies.

Sam Grouse led from the front with a hat-trick and Will Hopkins added the other two in a fine performance.

FC Bulls Head have built a 10-point lead at the top of the table after a convincing 5-1 win at Ullesthorpe.

They started quickly with Jack Dibb crossing for Ryan Brightwell to open the scoring at the near post after just 14 seconds.

Keeper Tom Dennett set up the second for Brightwell again after collecting an Ullesthorpe corner.

Luke Burrows then added a third from an Alex Fields corner before finding the net again from a Jack Dibb assist.

After the hosts had pulled one back from the spot, Simeon Davis scored from 25 yards for Bull to stamp their authority.

Dunton and Broughton gained a welcome three points at Thurlaston Magpies.

After a goalless first half, Luke Marshall and Connor Lawton found the net to seal a 2-1 win for Dunton.

Sporting Dynamo Reserves maintained their good form with a 4-1 win over Topps Reserves.

Tommy Reading, Jack Coleman, Jimmy Chandler and Damien Lawrence scored in the second half for Dynamo in a 4-1 win.

In the PWS Leicester Ltd Division Two, players from Wykin and MP Steel paid their respects to Matthew ‘Archie’ Wheatley, who died suddenly last week, before the whistle.

Hosts Wykin went on to win 7-1 thanks to four goals from Ryan Cheshire, two from Chris Booton and one from Danny Campbell. Daniel Toone scored a consolation strike for Toone.

Coalville Miners continued their recent good form with a 6-1 win at Newstock Rangers.

John Moore was on target for the hosts, but goals from Sam Johnson (3), Kurtis Lole, Dan Edwards and an own goal sealed the points for the Miners.

Anchor Inn started brightly at home against Plough Inn and could have been a couple up in the first half, but Plough keeper Harry Charlton denied them a penalty opportunity.

Jamie Dexter made them rue the missed chances before halftime and added a second after the break.

Dave Darragh added a third to take the three points and regain top spot with a 3-0 win.
