Lions serve up victory in trophy competition

SHARP shooters Sporting Lions have fired their way to victory in the Presidents’ Trophy competition.

The high-flying team lifted the cup at Ashby Road Sports Club, the headquarters for Hinckley Air Rifle League, following some excellent shooting.

Glen Dainter shot a faultless 25.5, with a near perfect 25.4 from Todd Astill and Karl Bunting, a 24.3 from Jeanette Mulkeirins and Melanie Jenkins, as well as a 23.2 from Lee Johnson enough to clinch the title.

In second was Bedworth Ex Servicemen’s Club who totalled 167. This included Bill Bend’s 25.4, James Bend’s 25.3, Andrew Cryer’s 24.3, Mick Cryer’s 24.1, Jackie Bend’s 23, and 22.1 from Katie Hartley and Jeff Goodyer.

Smallshaws were only slightly behind with 165.9, including a 24/2 from Tom Williams, 24 from Bob West and 22.2 from Jackie West.

There was very little between the next two teams with Ashby Road outscoring the New Plough by just 0.6.

The Plough’s 163.2 included John Bray’s 25.3, Tom Bray’s 25.1 and Paul Barwell’s 22, while the best score in Ashby Road’s 163.8 were Seamus Moore’s 25.4, Pete Finney’s 25.1, David White’s 23.2, Lorraine White’s 22.2 and Richard White’s 22.

In sixth was Hinckley Phoenix whose 162.9 came courtesy of Karen Bown’s 23.1, the 23s of Luke Bown and Colin Rusted, Tony Overton’s 22.2, the 22.1s of Ian Ratheram and Geoff Herbert, and the 22s of Samantha Haskins and Michael Robinson. The Trojans finished in seventh on 159.8, with Rob Forman scoring 24, Phil Wood and Chris Sills 23.2, Leigh Hall 22.2 and Nigel Jackson 22.1.

The Hounds and Taylor and Ayre only had five shooters each so were never going to challenge for the title.

The Hounds claimed eighth place thanks to a 125.5 total that included Richard Green’s 24.2, Paul Huddlestone’s 23.1, and Andrew Mitchell’s 22.

Taylor and Ayre finished ninth with 107.4 that included 24.2s from Alyson Steele and Giles Headley.

Ashby Road B failed to turn up so finished in last place.
