Glover is a penalty hero at the death

- Hinckley RFC 31 Wharfedale 30

A PENALTY in the last minute from Joe Glover gave Hinckley a get out of jail free card, winning 3130 at home to Wharfedale, writes Chris Campbell.

This came following a push over try finished by Glover just a minute beforehand in a game which went both ways, with Hinckley at one point leading 21-8.

The game started well with a strong angle from Alex Salt after four minutes, the score converted by Glover.

Soon after Hinckley were turned over on the half way, and the visitors took the opportunity to score an unconverted try on nine minutes.

Alex Crocker extended the lead to nine with an excellent finish after a pass from Salt, with Glover again converting. Wharfedale reduced the deficit with a penalty to leave the score at 14-8 on 20 minutes.

A lovely pass from Harvey on a penalty advantage sent Murray in under the posts for a third try, with a third Glover conversion making it 21-8.

On half time however the swing began - the ball was dropped in midfield and Wharfedale hacked the ball through - the visitors winning the chase to touch down, with Glen Murray also being sinbinned for an offence in the lead up.

Wharfedale started the second half at speed and scored after a minute with Hinckley down to 14, giving them a 22-21 lead. Glover missed a penalty on 60 minutes and then it looked like the game was lost with the visitors running in a converted try with seven minutes to go.

However guts and determination came through with 10 points from Glover in the final couple of minutes taking the game.

Next week Hinckley travel to Manchester to face Sedgley Park.
