Table tennis duo finish in first and third places

-

TOP performances in the Leicestershire Schools Under 19s Boys Championships were given by Adam Pettitt and Cameron Lightfoot, both of whom are pupils of Bosworth Academy in Desford and Hinckley League players for Barlestone Table Tennis Club.

Pettitt won the event defeating long-term rival Aman Rashid, with Lightfoot finishing third.

Since 2009, the event final has been contested by the same duo of Pettitt and Rashid, but this was only the second time at Pettitt had finished as victor.

Currently playing for his club in Division One of the Hinckley league, Pettitt is 5th in terms of averages with more than 95% of games won, while Lightfoot, who plays in Division Two, has won more than 50% of his matches.

Pettitt’s victory takes him, along with Frankie Hallam and Edward Brown, to the National Finals in April.

In the Midland Vetts League, Hinckley A started the season well and are currently unbeaten having drawn their first match against Shrewsbury and picked up a surprise win over Birmingham C by six sets to four.

Andy Spring and Pete Jamieson both won two each, with Brian Hagger collecting one win and Jamieson and Hagger winning the vital doubles to ensure the points.

It leaves them placed in fourth in the League table.

Not such good news for Hinckley B, who are currently bottom of the table with two points from two matches.
