Triumph for the ‘A’ team while other teams fall to defeat

-

HINCKLEY A started 2017 in fine style dispatching Nuneaton Old Eds 47-24 on opposition territory.

The Hinckley netballers were always in the lead, managing to stifle the home team’s comeback efforts. Player of the match was goal shooter Carole Payne.

Hinckley B got off the blocks quickly but never really pulled away enough to stretch an early lead against Alvis who turned over three centres to lead by four at the end of the first quarter.

Despite excellent play from Hinckley with a number of turn overs and late pressure the final score was 41-44 to Alvis. Player of the match was wing defence Rebecca Kenney.

Hinckley C team played Henley D with the game starting off as an even match. Amazing shots from Emily Harrison and super sub Lynda Sanders helped keep the score to a tight 19-17 in the second quarter.

However Henley increased possession and despite a gutsy defence from Hinckley they went down 46-29.

Hinckley D started their game against a reputable Highway C team with determination and a tight defence.

Free flowing passing from Hinckley did little to prevent Highway inching ahead, gaining a number of turn overs to come out 47-36 winners. Player of the match went jointly to goal defence Leanne Evans and goal shooter Lynda Sanders.

Following what seemed a long break, Hinckley E played Highway D away. Communication was strong and despite going behind by three in the first quarter, Hinckley had some clean passing through centre court and felt they got off to a good start.

Defensive interceptions helped keep Hinckley in the game early on while later Highway’s defence shut up shop helping them to a 34-26 victory. Solid leadership from captain Anita King at centre saw her named player of the match.

A slightly changed F team, unfortunately plagued with illness and injury, returned to the home grounds at Hinckley to take on Offchurch C.

After a strong start, the Fs quickly became overpowered by the much more experienced Offchurch team. The defensive partnership of Jade Isaac and newcomer Anna Ball worked to get the ball down to the attackers but despite this and a never say die attitude the Fs were soundly beaten 41-16. Player of the match went to Anna Ball at goal defence on her F team debut.
