Invite to get dog chipped for free
DOG owners are invited to get their pooches microchipped for free to ensure they are abiding by the law.
Blaby District Council is hosting an identification event on Thursday April 6 from 10am to 2pm at their offices on Desford Road, in Narborough.
People will be able to update their personal details and get their pets chipped.
In April 2016, new laws came into force which means all dogs have to be chipped with up-to-date contact details of the owner.
Failure to do so is a criminal offence and could leave owners facing a fine of up to £500.
Michelle Ikin, senior animal services officer at the council, said: “We want to make sure that all dog owners in the district of Blaby are abiding by the law. Having a dog microchipped is a simple process which will take a few minutes and will help any organisation track the owner if a lost dog is handed into a shelter.”
